Spring 172

Bringing the campaign up to date after my non-internet hiatus:

The Kzinti Front

The high tide mark of the Coalition offensive against the Kzinti has passed. Three of the home system planets were devastated a couple of times and the Klingons did capture the major planet just outside the home hex, so splitting Kzinti territory in two. However, at that point the Klingon High Command decided that attacking the Federation was a good idea. The breathing space enabled the Kzinti to eject the Klingons from the major planet, helped by the fact that many of the Coalition ships were in bad shape (i.e. crippled) after their offensive efforts. The Kzinti just ignored the Lyrans for the time being.

The big cats have now turned their attention to their smaller feline enemies and, after slipping some reinforcements to the Marquis' Fleet, pretty much the rest of the Kzinti navy is attacking towards the closest Lyran staging point. The latter have elected to come out fighting to forestall their opponents. Meanwhile, the Klingons have destroyed the Marquis' Starbase, despite their reinforcements and the intervention of the Federation 4th Fleet. You can see large stacks of mangled ships at the Klingon and Federation Starbases on this front.

The Hydran Front

At the moment, things are relatively quiet on the Hydran Front. The little guys have now lost all three of their outer ring of Starbases. However, the Old Colonies Squadron has arrived and is being swelled by repaired cripples from the rest of the Hydran navy; they are all sitting on top of a newly constructed Starbase that guards the route from the homeworlds back to the Old Colonies. The Hydrans are even setting up an extra Battle Station here too. The Klingons and Lyrans have been building up for what they hope will be the conquest of the Hydran home systems, so the quiet here is not going to last much longer.

The Federation Front

The Klingons did really well in their initial offensive moves, seriously threatening the main Federation Starbase. However, the Feds sprung several surprises, one being the appearance of the largest carrier built so far, a CVA Heavy Carrier based on a Dreadnought hull. They also transferred reserves from the Romulan/Gorn frontier area, and the combination was barely enough to save the Starbase. The Klingons actually inflicted really serious harm, but constant targeting of their command ships forced them to withdraw. In a series of five battles, the damage was as follows:

Fed Losses

Destroyed:      CL; NCL; NCC; BT

Crippled:         4 x DD; NCL; CA; 2 x CC

Klingon Losses

Destroyed:      D5; 3 x D7

Crippled:         2 x D5; D5C; FD7; D7; 3 x D7C

Other ships were less seriously damaged in the fighting, including the C8 Dreadnought serving as the Klingon flagship.

The Federation is now attacking the Klingons at two planets in the neutral zone that the Boneheads took on their way into Federation space, and which are being used a major logistics node points. The Flatheads have also moved in a large stack of ships to their Starbase in the form of their Home Fleet.

The Klingons, however, have realized that the Feds must have transferred vessels from their other frontiers, which in turn leaves them vulnerable against the Romulans. Diplomatic efforts are being stepped up to bring the Warbirds into the war on the Coalition side.
